DSABC, an organization sanctioned by the Danbury Board of Education, fosters cooperation among businesses, the community, and the Danbury public schools to promote life-long learning and the successful transition of youth into society and the workforce. The DSABC Mentor Program is a school-based program that matches mentors with a Danbury Public School elementary, middle, or high school student who can benefit from a one-on-one relationship. The mentor meets with the mentee one hour each week to work with the student at school, during the school day, for a minimum commitment of one school year. The objective of this program is to improve academic performance, attendance, behavior, attitude toward school, and most importantly, self-esteem and motivation. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The Department of Developmental Services' (DDS) Southbury Training School is situated on over 1600 acres in Southbury, Connecticut. The school was built in the late 1930’s as home for individuals with mental retardation. Today, over 515 people reside in small cottages and apartments on the rural campus. Sixty percent of the Southbury residents have lived here for the past thirty years and most have chosen to continue to call Southbury home. About Connecticut DEP's CARE Program
Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) has taught over 111,000 citizens about water, fish and fishing since 1986.  Over 500 Certified Instructors have volunteered their time to the program.  Additionally, City Fishing summer events have taught 25,000 minority youth on urban waters. The CARE curriculum is included in the classrooms of twelve school systems. Educational efforts at two Fisheries Division hatcheries and a CARE education center reach 10,000 citizens annually.
